Silence is our only Servant

tree and forest floor - Silence is our only Servant

i did not seek you
nor you me

what was found
can only be found by the lost

steady my gaze
so that i may hear
open my ears
so that i may see

you climbed into my rib
before i could name you

i flint
you warm strike of steel

taste of soil
breath of pine
take me with you
so that we curl
together in the wind

let your breath enter mine
teach me how to pray
without a word

my hands remember
what my mind cannot

take me under
drown me in your splendor
bury your heartbeat within mine

sink your warmth into my marrow
let me hold it there

scatter me to root and wind
then gather me again

this is the only sanctuary
it is here
my soul can still

we cut each other open
to be whole
to begin
to end

speaking such truths
can only amount to a lie
no word could ever contain
nor could reason survive

you opened my eyes
to blind me
spoke
so i could be deafened

held my hand
that i could go dull

appeared
so i could vanish
coiled through the center of me
until i bled light

truth spilled from your mouth
like honey
fermenting in the dark
i swallowed it whole

hold now this music
i cannot bear to hear more

i am emptied
but not hollow
full of you

my body now a temple
so overflowing
even the gods drown
and dissolve inside

damp soil against knees
leaves matted in tangled hair
we never leave
we do not rise
we bloom

this is not something
that can be unseen
it is all that is

we forever remain
two stars in the sky
orbiting a single warm breath

what then should i call such a breath
love
awen
heaven

no
silence is our only servant now

be still
breathe me in
so that I may perish again
and again
and again
